Perhaps no place in India captures the imagination of a farming holiday like Punjab, with visions of mustard fields, tractors tilling the fields and the original Punjabi cuisine. Punjabiyat provides all that and more. Built amid fields of wheat and mustard crisscrossed by canals, with pathways lit by hurricane lamps, its four mud-plastered cottages downplay the luxuries within: high ceilings, four-poster beds, tasteful interiors, a covered front deck and private terrace.
Meals, served where you like, consist typically of parathas, potatoes from the fields, local curd, fruit platters and mango-mint smoothies, with a light continental lunch and open-air tandoori barbecues. Bicycle down to a dairy farm where you can milk cows and learn about rural dairy farming.
The famous Chhota Ghallughara gurudwara is a 20-minute walk away. Drive a tractor, go on a tonga ride and take an invigorating dip in the tube-well tank.
