- The Rural Side of Goa
Destiny The Farm Resort
Off The Grid Farm
Wildlife
The area has plenty of wildlife, such as The Indian Gaur (locally known as Bison). These are the largest bovine on the planet. Plenty of sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, porcupine, sloth bear, ant eaters and many leopards prowl these jungles. Now the area is also a Tiger reserve.
Waterfalls
There are many fresh water sources in this jungle that you can visit on foot or a full-day trip. You will usually be alone in silent evergreen jungles with just the sound of cascading water. Swim in the empty pools and frothy waters before returning home for dinner.
Trekking
With a fantastic climate and mixture of forests, grasslands and streams that are almost bereft of other people, trekking here is ideal. There are many routes to explore. In fact, this is the best way to enjoy the remoteness of the area. The treks will take you through dense evergreen forests, open grasslands that may remind you of the African savannah and also moist jungle with the many ferns and flora of the stream side environment.
Activities
The farming at Off The Grid today is the same as it has been for hundreds of years, mainly rice growing and some vegetables for the house. Other than rice some fruit trees and vegetables are grown, and there is the kitchen garden too.
Plentiful Mangoes are turned into jam for breakfast along with chikoos, guava’s and other orchard fruits. A healthy vegetable garden sprouts lettuce and tomatoes particularly well, so there is no shortage of garden fresh salads with every meal.
The Farm
Up in the hills, deep in a jungle, down by a stream, hidden from the world.
Stay off the grid for a few days in complete peace, in Goa. True to its name, the 5.5-acre patch run by white-water-rafting specialist John Pollard and his wife, Sylvia, a potter, has limited mobile network and no electricity. Two cabins, two rooftop rooms and a tent are surrounded by thick forest, gurgling streams and gushing waterfalls.
Off The Grid uses organic farming and composting to grow its own rice and fruit, while the kitchen garden supplies many of the vegetables used in the European, Asian and Anglo-Indian food. Choose from two-hour trails to day treks to explore waterfalls and tribal hamlets, and keep an eye out for deer, bears, porcupines, gaurs and leopards.
Off The Grid is hidden in some of the least populated and undisturbed evergreen forests in peninsular India. It is situated on a perennial stream which dissects the property, bringing in copious amounts of fresh flowing water.
Around the farm, there are stunning mountain streams, natural grassy peaks, forested valleys and hidden waterfalls, just a few tribal hamlets, and one medium sized village. It is one of the most "off the beaten track" places you may ever visit. You will get unmatched privacy and a surreal detachment from the outside world.
